Choose Your Circle Wisely

I was honoured to sit with Yemi Awopetu and The Shortest Path podcast.

I really enjoyed this conversation, as it allowed me to talk about personal growth and my work. We discussed the current leadership crisis, the need for system-oriented approaches, and the alignment of personal values. We also discussed the importance of close friendships in adulthood and the value of cultural heritage.

For the TL;DR crew, these were my key leadership takeaways from the conversation:

  • Write down your vision and discuss it with your advisory board to get feedback and accountability.

  • Consider how widely you are thinking about stakeholders and who is represented when making decisions in your organisation.

  • Find ways to authentically support others from underrepresented groups rather than performative actions.

  • Make sure to schedule breaks and time for recharging to avoid burnout. Prioritise rest and time with supportive people.

There was plenty more but you’ll have to watch/listen to the full episode for that. And I’ve been kind enough to include the video below. Enjoy.
