Coaching
Working with executive directors, senior leaders and high potential employees in the private and civic sectors.
What is Executive Coaching
Executive coaching is a personalised, professional development process aimed at helping senior executives, leaders, and high-potential individuals enhance their leadership skills, performance, and overall effectiveness within an organisation.
It is a powerful tool for developing effective leaders who can navigate the complexities of today’s business environment. Focusing on individual growth and aligning with organisational goals, it not only benefits the executive but also contributes to the overall success of the organisation.
How does it work?
Executive coaching involves assessments, goal setting, coaching sessions, action planning, progress monitoring and finally an evaluation of the process. The process is co-designed considering the individual outcome of you the executive and the ambitions, goals and strategies of your organisation.
Sessions are one hour long and contracts are a minimum of six or twelve months depending on the nature of the agreement. Sessions are held once or twice a month and can be virtual, physical or a combination of both depending on where you are based. All conversations are confidential.
What do we focus on?
The main areas that David works on with clients are
Leadership Development. This will include developing a work-life blend, sense-making, context, problem-solving and decision-making. Exploring systemic and individual leadership and how clients navigate their workspaces while improving their leadership skills.
Strategic Planning & Growth. Work to enhance strategic thinking skills, decision-making abilities, and leadership qualities of executives and executive teams. Enabling you to effectively create and execute plans that drive sustained business growth and achieve organisational goals; This can include identifying opportunities, analysing market trends, developing clear vision statements, and aligning teams to achieve desired outcomes.
Performance Coaching. This coaching process targets an individual's job performance, productivity, and effectiveness in their current role. It is specifically designed to address immediate challenges, refine skills, and enhance the individual's ability to meet specific performance goals.
Effective Communication. This coaching is to develop advanced communication skills that enable leaders to influence, inspire, and build strong relationships within and outside their organisation. It can include presentation skills, business storytelling, conflict management and executive presence.
Executive Coaching for Individuals
This is one-to-one coaching that is usually spread over six to twelve months. Most clients tend to be executive directors, partners or senior leaders in corporations that run at a large scale and are making over £10m a year, or if non-profit at least a £5m endowment.
After an initial assessment of needs, we devise a coaching plan. We meet at least once a month either virtually, face to face or a blend depending on location. Each session ends with reflective practice an action plan in preparation for the next. In between sessions clients can connect on urgent issues that they need to address in the moment.
VIP DAYS.
For some executive directors, there is more of an immediate need to tackle an issue, and rather than spread it over a long period, the work is done intensely over a day. After a pre-assessment, we plan the day focusing on strategy, closing potential talent/skills gaps, have immersive simulations and then think of the practical application of the learning.
There is follow-up and support as well as a post-session evaluation and feedback to ensure the outcomes of the VIP Day were met.
The most recent VIP days focused on clients who had to deliver high-stakes presentations, navigate a new executive team and board and planning for strategic growth.
Executive Coaching for Teams
This coaching focuses on enhancing leadership development, strategic alignment, communication, team dynamics, and ultimately alignment around common goals for executive teams, executive boards and other senior leadership collectives.
The coaching plan can include a combination of individual coaching, team coaching, and offsites to foster collaboration and strategic thinking.
A typical coaching programme would involve
Individual Development Plans (IDPs): Tailored action plans for each team/ board member, including key development areas and timelines.
Team Action Plan: A strategic plan developed during the offsite retreat with clear goals, roles, and accountability.
Ongoing Support: Provide recommendations for continued learning and development opportunities beyond the coaching engagement.
